If you’ve ever shopped for firewood, you’ve probably heard the term cord of wood. A cord is just the standard way of measuring firewood, so everyone knows exactly how much they’re getting. Picture a stack of logs that’s 4 feet high, 4 feet deep, and 8 feet long — that’s a full cord. It adds up to 128 cubic feet of wood when stacked nice and tight, with minimal gaps in between. A loose cord delivered in a truck where the wood is tossed in and not stacked, takes 180 cubic feet instead of the same amount of wood only taking up 128 cubic feet when stacked neatly.
